September Newsletter: Meeting The Moment

Supporting The Bridge is on the menu all month long! When you dine at The Lowry, located just down the block from our shelter, you can round up your bill to help youth feel safe, accepted, and supported.

The Lowry is a contemporary bar and restaurant serving fresh, always made from scratch dishes. Enjoy great burgers, a delicious brunch, cocktails and more – all while supporting youth experiencing homelessness.

Stop on in and be sure to ask your server to round up your bill to support The Bridge for Youth! Click here to watch us visit The Lowry!

A new support group at The Bridge has been created by Black-identifying female staff for Black-identifying female staff. As the group works through Shanene Herbert’s guided journal, Soul Yearning, they share personal stories, learn about each other as individuals, and build connections as they journey toward healing and restoration.

We are grateful for our loving team of staff who take time to help each other grow personally and professionally.

Meet The Bridge’s Youth Advisory Board, a group of young leaders who have been through our programs and use their lived expertise to help inform decisions that positively impact future youth.

Their voices led to the creation of the Mobile Youth Outreach Center, are present throughout expansions of our programs, led decisions regarding our ongoing renovations, informs our content on social media and more.

“I believe every youth deserves to be heard. Our voices are important because we have firsthand experience and can relate to what the youth are going through.”
-Lisa, Youth Advisory Board Member

Centering youth voice is at the heart of our work. When we empower, validate, and truly listen to the voices of youth with lived experience, we’re able to best meet their needs. Read more about the Youth Advisory Board and learn what this work means to them.

It’s important to have fun at The Bridge. Hosting meaningful programs, creating positive memories, and building commUNITY helps youth feel safe, accepted, and supported. As summer ends, youth in program had the opportunity to be part of many fun activities:

  • World Indigenous Peoples Day was honored at our monthly CommUNITY in the Courtyard event. Together we celebrated with a spiritual blessing and cleansing from local Native Artist, Wakinyan Wambli, enjoyed food from Powwow Grounds and played games from Indigenous communities from around the world.
  • The Bridge was taken to new heights at Valleyfair! This unique outing brought youth and staff together for a memorable day of rides. This experience offered a sense of normalcy and joy to youth.
  • The Bridge’s LBGTQ+ support group ‘So What If I Am’ made the trip up north to celebrate Duluth Pride! Youth enjoyed the day watching drag shows, eating good food, and enjoying each other’s company sitting at Lake Superior.

The Bridge will be hosting a special celebration exclusively for LGBTQ+ youth on October 24th. Interested in learning more?

This time of year tends to get very busy at The Bridge! Thanks to our commUNITY of support, we were able to meet the moment and continue showing up for youth. Check out some of the ways people gave back last month:

  • Volunteers from The University of Minnesota’s student organization, Carlson 4 Community, helped get The Mobile Youth Outreach Center ready for the school year. Together we restocked the bus as volunteers prepared snack kits and school supplies to share with youth across the metro.
  • Our commUNITY showed up strong for our school supply drive. Employees at UPS assembled over 70 backpacks full of supplies, and our friends at The Greater Twin Cities United Way provided us with backpacks and supplies as part of their 2025 Action Day!
  • Volunteers from White Cap Property Management spent a morning at The Bridge doing some seasonal landscaping around Rita’s House.
