Celebrating Liberation and Excellence: CommUNITY Juneteenth 2026

For the fifth year in a row, The Bridge for Youth commUNITY gathered to commemorate Juneteenth. Together, we recognized Black liberation and excellence with an afternoon of great food, music, dancing, and cultural celebrations.

Youth and their loved ones, along with staff, sponsors, and volunteers, lined up for incredible food from House of Jerk and Gouda’s Spot, plus dessert from Cheesecake Funk (Prince’s favorite). Activities were held throughout the courtyard and inside our building.

Thanks to a sponsorship from our friends at Springboard for the Arts, we welcomed local rapper Terrell X to the stage. Using only his voice and a loop pedal, he taught us the art of the human beatbox. His performance highlighted the power of music, Black culture’s influence, and how all youth can use their voice.

Music continued to be a central theme of the day as ‘She Cultivates’ led us in line dancing in the courtyard. This was the group’s second appearance at The Bridge. Their movement-based, easy-to-learn line dancing helped youth build confidence and created community connections. Even attendees on the sidelines were tapping their feet as staff and youth alike showed off their moves.

Style and fashion were also a popular feature as airbrush artists made custom bucket hats and tote bags. Our friends from Medica’s Black Excellence ERG and Xcel Energy’s BLAX BRG were also in the mix, offering activities like yard games and beading.

“Juneteenth reminds us of who we are, how far we’ve come, and the importance of community,” remarked a youth from The Bridge. “It’s important to come together as a community and honor our ancestors.”

It is at the core of our values to continually celebrate and uplift Black voices and history.

We’re continually and intentionally bringing culturally relevant and empowering programs to The Bridge. Celebrating Black youth, Black staff, and Black community members is an ongoing commitment—one that is both just and necessary. Click here to read our Racial Justice and Equity Statement to learn more.

Whether it’s the music that lifts our spirits or the food that brings us to the table, The Bridge’s annual Juneteenth event is an enduring reminder that commUNITY is key. On behalf of the youth, board, and staff – thank you to our sponsors and supporters for making our celebrations possible.

Liberation is love!
