Independent Living Skills (ILS) Coordinator

Position Information

Position:   ILS Coordinator
Job Type:  Full-Time
Classification: Non-Exempt; Hourly
Reports to: Supportive Housing Manager

Responsible for facilitating, coordinating, engaging, and leading independent living skills (ILS) and parenting skills in two BFY programs, Rita’s House and Marlene’s Place. The ILS Coordinator works with youth ages 18-21 who are tenant-residents of intentional community in Rita’s House, and with youth ages 16-20 who are residents and parents of children ages 0-3 at Marlene’s Place.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ILS services and support to youth ages 16-21; both 1:1 and group work.
  • Coordinate, implement, and facilitate the delivery of Ansel Casey Independent Living Skills assessment tools and curriculum to the residents of Rita’s House and Marlene’s Place; topics to include but not limited to:
    • Housing & basic ILS skills such as cooking & grocery shopping, money management, hygiene & conflict resolution
    • Educational & employment planning, transportation planning
    • Developing wellness practices, engaging in the community and improving their physical, mental and spiritual health
  • Develop positive relationships that support youth in achieving their personal and (when applicable) parenting goals
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with partner agencies and community service providers
  • Assist case management in responding to crisis when necessary

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two years of experience in a similar setting or Bachelor’s degree in social work, or human services related field
  • Group facilitation experience
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Problem solving, high organizing skills, energetic and flexible.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • A valid Driver’s license and auto insurance; must have the ability to transport youth
  • Ability to work nights and weekends

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing direct services to youth and families that are coping with crises while operating within a framework of agency philosophy and goals.  The ideal candidate will have the skills and compassion necessary for building the capacity of youth and families toward increasing their overall sense of well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, guidance and milieu therapy to youth.
  • Develop specialized program plans for youth.
  • Co-facilitate and lead group sessions with youth.
  • Provide screenings for services, administer assessments and intake services, document and report abuse (when necessary), and complete required file work for youth entering the shelter program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or final year of B.A. program in psychology, social work, or related human services field and/or two years of experience working with youth.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (preferred). Bi-lingual (preferred).
  • Must clear a background check.
