We’re Sprouting for joy over our third annual Sprout event, a celebration of motherhood and a glimpse into the strength and journey of pregnant and parenting youth. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to gather in BFY commUNITY at The Hutton House as we heard powerful stories of hope and resilience.
We are so grateful to our Emcee, Sheletta Brundidge, for leading the event with such warmth and love for our youth. Jamela Pettiford and Phil Clomon uplifted and inspired us all through beautiful musical performances.
Our guest speaker, Marea Perry, Executive Director of Secrets2Truths and BFY Community Health Worker, boldly shared her story as a mother with an open door to youth in the community, and a trusting adult to many young families at The Bridge. Marea’s hopeful testimony showed us the power of mothers and the importance of The Bridge’s programs for young families.
We also heard from Janae, graduate of Gloria’s Place, soon-to-be college student, and mother to two-year-old Esme. From coming to The Bridge as a pregnant youth in need of emergency shelter, to now living happily in their own home, Janae and Esme speak to the impact of healthy relationships, safe shelter, and community resources on the journey to safety and stability.
We also revealed plans for our Young Families Housing Campaign, in which we’re requesting $3.5M in state funds to build 40 new housing units for young families this legislative session. This investment will help more young families like Janae and her daughter Esme find the housing and holistic support they need to create bright and hopeful futures. Learn more and get involved!
