For more than 56 years, The Bridge for Youth has been a critical resource for young people in crisis in the Twin Cities. We are the largest emergency shelter for youth ages 10-17 in Hennepin County, the only emergency shelter in Minnesota for young parents and their children, and a 24/7/365 resource for thousands of youth navigating homelessness each year. Last year alone, The Bridge engaged over 11,000 young people through emergency shelter, transitional housing, holistic health support, community outreach, and other vital services.
Our Strategic Direction for Young Families
We are now at a pivotal moment. Our Strategic Plan calls for a significant expansion of housing options – up to 45 units – for young families experiencing homelessness. We have secured $1,250,000 from the Minnesota Legislature to gain site control and begin predesign. We are at the cusp of a capital campaign and are actively building the team to carry this full project forward.
Seeking Mission-Driven Leaders to Serve on Our Board of Directors and Committees
We are actively recruiting a diverse commUNITY of volunteer Board Members and Committee Members with lived expertise and representative identities to the youth we support, who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas described below. - Affordable or supportive housing development
- Real estate site acquisition, financing, or project management
- Nonprofit Finance and/or Public/private housing finance tools (e.g., Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, HUD programs, MHFA financing)
- Construction, architecture, or community development
You don’t need to join the full board to contribute. Committee participation is a meaningful and flexible way to share your expertise on this critical project.
Nonprofit Financial Management up to and including interest in our Finance Committee Chair & Board Treasurer
Sound financial stewardship is essential to sustaining and growing our mission. We are seeking individuals with nonprofit financial leadership experience to serve as:
Finance Committee Chair by providing oversight of budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls. Board Treasurer by serving as an officer of the board with fiduciary responsibility for the organization’s financial health.
- Ideal candidates will have backgrounds in:
- Nonprofit accounting or financial management
- CFO, Controller, or senior finance leadership
- Audit committee or finance committee governance
- CPA licensure or equivalent financial expertise
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for someone who wants their financial skills to directly support a mission that changes young lives.
Fundraising & Capital Campaign Leadership
The Bridge is preparing for a significant capital campaign to finance our housing expansion. We need fundraising leaders, at the board and committee level, who have experience with:
- Capital campaign strategy and management (public and private fundraising)
- Major gift cultivation and solicitation
- Corporate and foundation grant strategy
- Government funding and public sector advocacy
- Donor relations, events, and campaign communications
We are now building the fundraising infrastructure and leadership team needed to close the gap on a multi-million dollar capital project. Your expertise in this area could be transformational.
