Joy and liberation filled the room as Bridge for Youth supporters, friends, youth, and staff gathered at Scheid Hall in Surly Brewing for the third annual CommUNITY LGBTQ+ Celebration.
“This is a safe space,” declared our MC and drag performer, Luna Muse. “Too many of us have nowhere to go to be our authentic selves, too many of us have no place to call home, and too many of us hide who we are. But The Bridge is there for youth when they need it most”.
Raising a glass to the LGBTQ+ community, we celebrated the strength and journey of LGBTQ+ youth with energetic dances from Luna Muse and hard-hitting rock music from our musical guests, Rebel Queens. It was a one-of-a-kind celebration where we danced the night away while raising funds to support LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
Over 6,000 youth experience homelessness on any given night in Minnesota, with 23% of homeless youth identifying as LGBTQ+. The Bridge is a safe place for LGBTQ+ youth, providing specialized case management, therapeutic supports, access to gender affirming care resources, and more.
“The Bridge felt very welcoming. It was one of the few buildings I’ve walked in where I saw representation,” shared our youth speaker, Will. “Without The Bridge, where are queer youth going to go when they need a safe place?”
As a member of The Bridge’s long-running support group for LGBTQ+ youth called, So What If I Am?, Will has been able to embrace and enjoy his queer journey in a safe space that authentically welcomes him.
